Waterfall adventure tours

So it finally happened, we are all healthy.  Sophie responded really well to the IV antibiotics and this week we were able to enjoy a vacation at the cottage.  I had a week off of work and we tried to pack a whole lot into that week.

We probably did a little too much the first weekend, Sophie was exhausted and had quite a bad seizure.  We had to give her rescue meds to stop it which we hadn't had to do in a very long time.  But that was the only seizure she had while we were away thankfully, and we had no hospital visits.  Yay!

My mom and my niece drove up with us to the cottage for the long weekend and we had some beautiful sunny days, although the beach was windy and the water was cold.  The water really hasn't warmed up at all this summer, the nights are cooling off too much, but it was still fantastic weather and we had lots of fun.

We had a little adventure to a waterfall near Owen Sound that we had not visited before.  The start of the trail seemed pretty easy and we were able to push Sophie in her wheelchair without too much effort.  The waterfall was only one km from the head of the trail but we ended up having to carry her halfway.  My arms were like jelly by the time we got most of the way there, and Jason carried her the way back.  It was totally worth it though because we all got to stay together for the hike.

Lucas and Zoe both burned off lots of energy, loved their walking sticks and explored everything they came across on our hike.  I loved it because Sophie got to do it with us.  So often she has to miss out on these physical adventures.  I don't know if she loved the surroundings and the views or not, but I know she loved the experience and being with all of us.

The trail was really nice and the waterfall itself was much higher than I anticipated.  All the storms we have had in the last month meant that it wasn't just a little trickle of an August waterfall, it was a really strong current with a huge cascade.  There were many small waterfalls all along the river leading to the large falls so it was a fun photo day for me.

 A rare selfie

Seeing this sign after the hike wasn't exactly helpful, but it made for a fun afternoon. :)   Sometimes it is more fun going into the unknown.
