Sometimes detours take you to the best places

We had another weekend at the cottage but it didn't turn out exactly as planned.  The weather decided not to cooperate and it rained pretty much the whole weekend.

So we stayed dry on Saturday by spending the day at the museum.  There was a hilarious travelling exhibit called Grossology.   Of course, Lucas loved it, Sophie was not too sure at first but had a good laugh as we made the burp machine work.  We tried out all the buttons and everything talked and moved and made smells, so it was very interactive - and gross.

Plugging his nose for the photo in the spirit of grossness lol

On Sunday we headed up to Cape Croker for the annual Powwow.  It was pouring the whole drive there so we decided to go past the powwow all the way to the top of the bay and see the lighthouse.  The beach was beautiful and Lucas found an amazing rock with a bunch of very detailed fossils in it.

We didn't get Sophie out of the car because it was very rocky and pouring rain.  So Lucas and I made a quick run down to the shore and were surprised when we came across all the Inukshuks.   They are not part of the culture of the First Nations people in Ontario (they are from much further north) but people often build them here thinking that they are.  If nothing else they are a great photo op lol.

We headed back and the weather cleared enough for a stop at the powwow.  It started to pour again just as we all got out of the car, but we waited it out at the booths for a while and finally the dancing started up.  It was alot of fun and Sophie really enjoyed seeing all the bright, colourful, sometimes noisy and often fast moving outfits.

It was a great powwow, I took so many pictures but these were some of my favourite dancers.
Sophie's nurse is from this reservation and she brought some beautiful hand beaded barretts for Sophie, they are so beautiful, she is a lucky girl.

After all the storms, tornados and rain I am looking forward to more sunny skies before the end of August.  School will be started before we know it.
